Welcome

Thanks for stopping by.

The internet has allowed us to connect in extraordinary ways. Social media has created platforms of discovery and information. But I find that the people that I want to learn from or interact with has been replaced with what the algorithm thinks is best for me.

This has led me to think that social media is not the best way to directly connect with people. As a communicator, I think its time to return back to the thing that sold us on the internet and on exploration in the first place: email and newsletters, respectively.

I also started this newsletter because I’m just a natural born maven who wants to share any and everything I come across that I think will be of value to people who care about, geek out over, or are interested in similar things like me.

Those things are philosophy, culture, and inspiration.

Who am I?

I’m a tenured philosophy professor at the University of California, Riverside. I write about the role of emotions and attitudes in public life. I also direct the Emotion and Society Lab and host The UnMute Podcast.

I am also a serial hobbyist and renaissance woman with an obsessive book reading habit.
